Farewell 2017. Hello, 2018! And a restart.

Noch Kay2

Hi! I know it’s been awhile. And I wish I had a really good excuse for not checking in. But I don’t.

Have I been writing? Yes and no. I was writing like a fiend up until the day before we left for our vacation. We headed out of Watford City, North Dakota on November 22nd to drive down to Galveston, Texas.

We took our son on a five day cruise for his 11th birthday. We visited the ports of Costa Maya (the picture is from the fabulous private resort at Nohoch Kay) and Costa Maya.

We got back to chilly North Dakota on December 3rd and I have yet to write a single word. Other than this blog post. I think I am stuck on ‘island time.’ I know my heart sure is!

I’m mad at myself for not getting my ass in the chair and finishing the last THREE chapters of book two of the Annunak Series! The characters have been harassing me. My editor probably thinks I’m stuck on an island in the Caribbean, somewhere. Friends have been asking me how the writing is going. And all I can do is shrug.

It might be because I’m distracted by life stuff. You see, I found a private school in Texas that specializes in nonverbal autistic kiddos. And I’ve been working on getting my munchkin enrolled for next year. But it means moving as soon as school gets out at the end of May so he can test it out over the summer semester. I’m a little stressed. That’s only about four months away. There are lots of things to figure out and coordinate. All by myself.

Hubby would like to help, but this is the busy season and he’s been working 90 – 100 hours a week. We’re lucking if we see him for an hour a day.

BUT! I have committed to finishing book 2 and getting it published before I pack up my office and head for warmer shores. Now, THAT part, I’m excited about. I’m over all these -20s temps!

I’m also going to try my best to post an update on all the craziness once a week. As well as figure out this whole ‘newsletter’ thingy.

So, if you’ve stuck with me this long, I thank you from the bottom of my frozen heart! Until next week, take care!

Progress Update – 8-21-2017

Monday Memo

Well, I’m not sure if it’s the excitement over the eclipse or I’m worn out from having little man home for the last month, but I got almost nothing done on the Super Secret Project #2.

scifi mech 1

I’m gonna blame both. I’m excited about the eclipse (starting at 11:30 am my time). And I’m completely worn out from having my little monkey-butt home 24/7 for 30 straight days. Thankfully, school starts Thursday. w00t!

Hope you enjoy the eclipse. I’m going to try to get some words done.

What’s Up?

Monday MemoAfter I finally published my first book, we decided (OK, *I* decided it was time to trade in the BMW with 160k miles) we needed a new vehicle with a LOT fewer miles. While we were in Billings car shopping, my good buddy, JR sent me a text that sounded pretty urgent.

[If you want to check out JR’s stuff, here’s his blog. He writes Military Science Fiction. And he’s an all around good guy. Just don’t tell him I said so.]

I texted him back and he said he had leads on a couple of anthologies that he suggested I check out. Next thing I know, I’m submitting stories. One of them is coming out on September 7th. It’s science fiction humor, so of course, I had to participate! You can check it out here: Pew! Pew! – The Quest for More Pew!

The second anthology is mech and I’m still writing it. More details as I’m allowed to share.

As for book two in the Annunak Series. It’s halfway written and I’m hoping to have it ready to publish by Thanksgiving. Sooner, if I can corral all the damn cats!

Slay The Dragons!

keep-calm-and-slay-dragons-23I’ve been asked at least a half dozen times in the last few days, “Where have you been?”

“Slaying dragons, and you?” has been my easy answer.

And in a way, it’s sorta true. The longer answer is that there were some issues with my Little Man’s school and therapist’s office. After banging my head against the wall for over six weeks, getting more and more frustrated with trying to get answers, I finally reached my breaking point and said, “Fuck it, I’m over this shit.” Yes, I have a potty mouth.

The last time I posted here (May 19th), we were headed to Casper, WY for the summer. Well, that only lasted about a month before hubby was laid off thanks to the down turn in oil prices (yeah, yeah, spare me the ‘but gas is so much cheaper now!’ blah blah). He had a job less than 30 minutes later and moved back to Watford City, North Dakota (that’s another story – oy). We spent the rest of the summer in a lovely studio room in a mancamp about five miles outside of town. I was able to secure him a very nice (I was so jealous and HATED to leave it), brand new apartment in town two weeks before we had to head back to Arizona. Continue reading
